Who said frank i have a sick headache

Also, they slept in the same bed, which was a first for television. They were the first. Rob and Laura Petrie had twin beds. She was very fond of Marion, and her death was a terrible blow. Esmerelda was meant to replace her, as much as we loved Alice Ghostly, she was no Aunt Clara. Samantha is witch too.

But she's trying to give it up. Upsets Darrin. Endora, Hagatha and Enchantra picked on her. First Aunt Clara episode. Hagatha Reta Shaw-loved her : "Have either of you flown with Clara lately? Sheer suicide! To answer someone's question, Endora and Maurice were still married, but led separate lives. Very modern for , I'd say.

She as also the wife of conductor Zubin Mehta. Don't flame me for the spelling. Anyone notice that when EM played Serena, that sometimes they got sloppy about not showing EM's double Melody's face in their scene's together. Sometimes you could see Melody's face, and in the show when Serena joins a computer dating service, there is a shot of the two of them looking through a door, and it is clear that Serena is not EM. Guess they just thought no one would notice.

Of course they lived separate lives! There is a very progressive episode where Tabatha gives herself and a little black girl spots to show that people are basically the same. The whole concept was quite daring in its day, particularly on a comedy series of this type, where "issues" were generally eschewed.

I know she was superior -- just so much funnier -- but really she was on the show for such a short time, just a season and a half. Sandra Gould just did it so much longer. But she was never as interesting to me as Alice Pearce had been. I remember Mary Grace Canfield, Ralph the Lady Plumber from Green Acres, came on as a cousin of Gladys' for a few episodes before they found a new Gladys, and she was much more interesting than Gould, too.

What's really cool is that that plot was brainstormed by a bunch of children at an elementary school, who submitted it into a contest for new "Bewitched" plots. The thing about Maurice and Endora being separated and living different lives was pretty cool--that was very rare for television.

Maurice would often show up at Sam's house with various beautiful young women in tow, and it was clear he was playing the field while Endora was withering on the vine at home. I liked how Maurice had a very different relationship with Darrin than Endora did--he would usually give Darrin more of a chance because he loved his daughter so much until Darrin insulted him, which was usually right away--and then, watch out. But once he tried to make Sam and Darrin happier by giving Darrin a witch's powers.

One of the best things about the show was how it always implied sex without having to state it upfront which they couldn't do because of network standards and practices. It was very clear that Serena was extremely kinky, and was always coming on to everyone she met, especially Larry "Hey ya old Cotton Top! EM's father, Robert Montgomery, was extremely homophobic.

RM was brought in to replace Billy Haines when he became just too out for Hollywood and a liability for the studios. Dick Wilson, who played the drunk in many episodes, died in November at age He is probably best known for his role as Mr. Whipple in the Charmin commercials of the 60's and 70's. There was also the episode where they had to bring Adam before the witches' council to prove whether or not he had powers.

I think in the end it was unclear if Adam actually had powers or if Maurice helped him pass the tests but it seemed that both he and Darren were proud. I know I'm reading too much into a sitcom but I recall one episode about Mother Stephens that was rather disturbing. She was determined to have Tabitha over for a visit and Samantha was equally desperate to tag along to make sure that she never learned about Tabitha's witchcraft. But the way Grandma Stephens was made to feel like some sort of enemy and prevented from enjoying any time with her only grandchild was rather heartbreaking.

It was a situation where she didn't really deserve the ill-treatment she was forced to endure. As I recall they met in a revolving door or in a store or something. Then they kept meeting by chance. The rest of the sequence was their dating, leading up to getting married. The "show" and series officially begins when they're on their honeymoon and she reveals that she's a witch.

I was just on Imdb, looking at the "Bewitched" page, and cast, and I found something interesting. Maureen McCormick play little Endora in two episodes in I'm a total TV trivia geek. Sargeant over York, what did you have too much witches' joy juice. The only character cuntier then Mrs. Stephens and Sheila was Sargeant's Darrin. York seemed to be gaga over Samantha and Sargeant just seemed to be pissed all the time. York's interactions not only with Liz, but Tabitha and Aunt Clara showed love and gentleness I think the first five years of the series showed what made it so special in that the relationships were as important as the zap.

Darrin truly loves Aunt Clara, kinda likes but is driven crazy by Uncle Arthur, is annoyed by Serena in a big brother kind of way, admires but is intimidated by Maurice, and well, just is annoyed by Endora.. Given the prominence of minority day players and extras and it main premise of conflicting cultures granted, one of them a fantasy culture , I assume this show was always about mixed marriages in general - and that they could work despite the inherent conflicts they would generate from all levels.

Obviously in the mid sixties a show about an interracial or mixed religion family were not possible on network TV. Several years later even Bridget Loves Bernie created quite the controversy and ultimately failed, and the first regular interracial couple didn't materialize until well into the 70's. I think a large number of these fantasy based sitcoms Bewitched, Jeannie, Green Acres and the Beverly Hillbillies - even the Addams Family and the Munsters were used as a tool by writers historically a very progressive bunch to address the racial and religious issues of the day camouflaged in fantasy and shtick.

On the first season of "Bewitched" they emphasized the idea that the Stephenses were a "mixed" marriage according to class from the point of view of Darrin's parents: Darrin was from a wealthy proper Connecticut family, and Darrin's parents assumed Sam was from a family that lived a very Bohemian lifestyle.

Darrin's father always loved Sam because she was so nice and beautiful, but Phyllis was pretty snobbish towards Sam about her origins and her family although she was outwardly always polite if chilly.

As time went on, the class element was deemphasized, but they did keep the joke that Mother Stephens thought that Sam's family was very bizarre even though she didn't know they were witches.

To me it was the exact opposite. Dick York scared me when I was a kid, because he was always angry and so over the top, with his eyes popping out. Dick Sargent, besides being more attractive, seemed like a more reasonable person than York. Dick Sargent was also a drier comedian than York, he was able to do more without going all-out hammy like York always did. This thread is a terrific analysis of a terrific show.

Alice Pearce's husband accepted her Emmy posthumously, I was a kid then and I was watching. I remember sobbing uncontrollably. She quite deservedly won an Emmy trophy for her work a few months after her death.

Hollywood lost a treasured talent in Alice Pearce, gone way before her time. EM wanted to end the show a lot sooner than they did. The reason she stayed is her caring attitude.

She knew she was a business and a lot of people and their families were out an income if she left. Her kindness also may have played a part in her too early demise. She was filming her detective movie.

I've forgotten the name. Fell ill but continued filming because she didn't want to inconvenience anyone or over budget the project. By the time the filiming was done she was to ill. She was also nursing her hubby Robert Foxworth, r He had been ill -- can't remember with what -- and I do remember reading that even when she herself needed nursing, she was spending her spare time taking care of Foxworth. They are my role models and helped me become who I am today, I'm proud of that.

I once saw a Biography series episode on Elizabeth Montgomery. It indicated that she didn't have an easy relationship with her father. I also wonder if many folks reading this remember that she was once married to Gig Young.

She was also married pretty briefly to someone else when she was quite young. She went from nightgowns and bows in the hair in the first season was she pregnant? The very first ones are detailed at the link below, they were followed by Fred and Wilma Flintsone and Herman and Lily Munster.

No mention of Darrin and Samantha. EM liked him so much, she worked to have him return as a relative - Uncle Arthur. It's hard to believe he made less than a dozen appearances on the series in total. He was so memorable. The first episode filmed EM was pregnant. The first year episodes you could tell she still had her pregnant weight on, hence, why she was always in big coats. I thought the last year of the show she looked horrible, for Liz she stopped wearing make up and her Samantha became almost as unpleasant as Seargent's Darrin, you could tell she just didnt want to do it.

That third year when the show went to color and Liz is seen in all her blond, tan glory EM and her husband wanted to stop after the fifth year and York left. She always had Bewitched money so she could work when she wanted to. Hated Seargent but some of those episodes are good, the Serena blow me a kiss in the wind is one of my faves, as are the Salem episodes. Since I hated Seargent it was fun to watch Endora make shit out of him.. EM loved playing Serena, too, which explains why she appeared frequently.

It let her break out of the box some and stray away from the somewhat more confining role of Samantha. Barbara Eden did the same thing, of course, with the incredibly creatively named Jeannie II. Ditto Carolyn Jones with Morticia and Ophelia. I don't know all the years like some of you do, but there was a point at which she stopped coloring her hair and had long roots and her hair was also frizzier and less styled.

That's when I think she looked worse and may be the final reason that R98 was referring to. Liz defended her. Endora was just a bitch to Clara. Clara got here revenge when Endora lost her powers and Aunt Clara got them.

She turned Endora into a goose. Loved when Aunt Clara tried to make a quick exit and walked into the wall! And her doorknob collection. Over of them! Remember the show when Endora wanted to get rid of Darren, so Serena impersonated Sam and drove Darren crazy.

At the end, there is the pie fight. Darrin gives it to Samantha, thinking she is Serena. Sam gives it back to Darrin. Darrin throws one at Sam and hits Endora instead. Serena appears and Sam throws a pie at Serena and nearly knocked EM's black wig off! When EM gets hit with the pie, you can tell that she is trying hard to hold back the giggles.

They even had to loop her next line because she couldn't say it without laughing. They loved that scene. Seeing Endora hit by a pie was classic. She screamed! Apparently Agnes wasn't happy because the way the pie hit here was bnot centered and the edge of the pie pan hit her in the face, and it hit her pretty hard. But AM was a trooper! The second Shelia episode in season 4 was classic.

She was even more bitchy, and when Darrin and Samantha went to her house, she kept mispronouncing Sam's name. Sam got her revenge at the end. There was a cool flashback to episode 1 when she first met Shelia, and gave it to her. Shelia: "Oh Samantha. Do you know Dr. The plastic surgeon. Does wonderful nose work".

I loved the episode with the truth statue and they kept passing it around. If you snap your fingers at me one more time Hated Liz's "hippy," look during the misbegotten eight season though I do love the Henry the Eight episodes Why is it that when an actress started looking "Hip" wearing her hair straight and go-go boots, the show started to tank Liz, Barbara Eden, Marlo Thomas and why is that I have noticed that?? Rumour was Liz was having an affair with the director during the last season which must have made the set tense.

But I still can't figure out how a company so creative and successful would trot out scripts and use them word for word in a different episode. Endora was being a real bitch to Aunt Clara in the trail episode. The other trial episode where they find out Tabitha is a witch is also unchararistic as they have Endora actually being mean to Samantha, which she never did before or after. Sad that I know this stuff. Endora shows up, and says softly "I won't stay very long.

I just want to say that I have no intention of breaking up a happy home". Phyllis freaks out. Endora relates the story to Sam and Darrin and says "She didn't listen. She was busy playing the wronged wife. She practically gave me her husband on a silver platter. What am I going to do with him? Always loved it, still do Why the fuck didn't he call first and what was he doing out in Scarsdale or wherever it's supposed to be, all the time?

I love how every show had an intelligent yet sentimental snipet. At the end Larry looks at Dustbin and say "You may not believe it old boy but there was a time when that cabin looked like a palace to me". The Tates and the Stephenses were best friends, and Larry and Louise would come over all the time for cocktail hour--Sam also often when shopping in Manhattan with Louise.

Also never realised it was Westport. Thanks for that snippet of info I'll never see Westport in the same way again. Larry was irritating but it is indisputible that he was also friends with Darrin even though he was always threatening to fire him. Larry and Louise were over for cocktails practically all the time. This thread got me to Googling and it brought me to this odd site that says the show may be remade for the BBC.

Personally, I'll believe it when I see it, but still. Me and my friends have taken to saying "Can I get you a drink, Laahrry? For that matter, there aren't any mountains either. But who cares. The Stephens lived next to Dr. Bellows, and Gidget.

Jeannie and Tony were across the street. The Kravitz's lived in Donna Reed's house. Ah, the Columbia Ranch! It was the same set, with some minor alterations. The staircase and the front door gave it away Was it mere coincidence that there were so many gay actors on the show?

Was it because Liz felt simpatico with them? Beautiful inside and outside. I loved that they smoked like chimneys too. I love the episode where endora turns Darrin into his younger self. Then Sam does and its while he's holding a cigarrette and the kid goes around with the ciggy for a while and no one seems to care. Darrin had basically Sam and that was it. Love the campiness of Dr. Bombay, one of my favorite characters of all time.

Loved his nurses and his bad puns.. Hated I Dream of Jeannie Jeannie was like a powerful stalker of Tony, and Jeannie II, the were so unimaginative they couldnt name the bitch??

Here's the great scene with Sheila being cunty to Sam at her dinner party and Sam being polite until she's pushed past her breaking point Here's the link to the pie fight sequence. Watch how Liz breaks up when she gets hit with the pie. Her next line had to be looped since she was stifling laughs. No it's based on Bell Book and Candle with a very young very hot jack lemmon and a smoldering kim novak.

Why is it that when an actress started looking "Hip" wearing her hair straight and go-go boots, the show started to tank". Please, the show was coasting on fumes by the 8th season, and totally out of place in the post-All In the Family 70s TV landscape, which stressed realism and social issues. Elizabeth's beautifully coiffed hair and miniskirts were hardly responsible for it's doom. The big Bewitched fan site details how Elizabeth's hairstyles started constantly changing in the final season, it was styled differently nearly every week and her tint also fluctuated a lot.

Elizabeth knew she had it going on, she was one of the most beautiful blonds on TV at the time and the girl worked it.

R, before you smugly accuse someone of being wrong and link a photo of Kim Novak which has nothing whatsoever to do with the way Liz Montgomery presented her character, please know that Bewitched borrowed elements from BOTH "I Married a Witch" and "Bell, Book and Candle". Asher did say Elizabeth his wife at the time and the original Darren York had great chemistry, that you could imagine this couple was really hot for each other.

Only thought it odd a husband hadn't had trouble noting that, but the professional in him knew it was sizzling on screen, and I guess totally platonic of EM and York in RL. I loved the Christmas episode where Sam flies the orphan to the North Pole. She was hot in her black witches outfit. I could not stand Dick York.

He scared me as a child. Dick Sargent was much more appealing, both aesthetically and personality-wise. I loved the clip with the first visit from Aunt Clara, who seemed to love Samantha and wanted her to be happy "where's that lovely mortal you married? Aunt Clara was one sweet witch.

There was no one like Aunt Clara. She was a character in real life too. There's an interview that EM gave a few years before her death in which she talks about Marion, and how fond she was of her. She tells a story about Marion going into a hotel, waving her arms and the lights going on. She called EM all excited, saying how about that? It really works.

It turned out that her bracelets hit together and created some weird electro-magnetic thing that affected the lights. It's a much cuter story when EM tells it. There was some very clever writing. In the episode "Mother meets whats-his-name", Endora is sitting on the chair in Darrin and Samantha's bedroom, reading "Harpie's Bizarre"! Then three neighbor boys burst in and talk to her:.

Boy: Hello Lady Endora: How do you do? Boy3: I'm an Indian. Boy1: What are you? Endora: Looks up from her magazine I'm a witch. Looks back at her magazine Boy1: Okay.

Are you a good witch or a bad witch? She acted at the Pasadena Playhouse. She directed a episode of the television show Apartment 4A. She obviously did a little bit of everything. But sometimes things get better when you specialize. Finally in , when Albertson was over 50 years old, the ice cracked and from there on in she worked constantly in both film and television. Youth did not suit her apparently; something about the mature Mabel Albertson resonated.

Englund was married to Cloris Leachman for 26 years. You must be logged in to post a comment. July 24, June 16, travsd. Like this: Like Loading Follow Following. Travalanche Join 4, other followers. Sign me up.
