We would like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing team at BBC Studios and all the cast and crew who have been involved in the show since And the current episodes being aired are gripping the nation, as Cameron and his mum Bernie are discovered to be still alive and two characters Ethan and Ian making a return in a few weeks. Following its launch in , Casualty 's sexier sibling was regularly bringing in approximately seven million viewers every Tuesday night, before dropping to an average of between four and five million in recent years.
We don't know whether this played a part in Holby 's eventual downfall, and we probably never will EastEnders is hardly breaking the screen with a 4m consolidated average for May, and Casualty and Doctors come in even lower , but it's unlikely that a long-running drama pulling in much higher and healthier figures would find themselves in the firing line. As for whether it could be picked up by another channel in the meantime, it's looking unlikely, but Digital Spy understands that it's very much at the BBC's discretion as it has the rights to the show. There would be several factors to consider if it were to be picked up by another channel — most notably when it comes to Casualty. Given that the two shows are, in fictional sense, based at the same hospital, giving another channel full creative control of Holby could invariably run into continuity errors.
Holby City will be airing in its usual Tuesday night slot at 7. Digital Spy now has a newsletter — sign up to get it sent straight to your inbox.
