Passover 2017 when does it end




















The final two days of Passover are fully-fledged holidays in which traditionally no work is done — apart from what is needed to prepare food, etc. The story goes that the Jews were enslaved by the Pharoah in Egypt, until Moses got involved and pleaded with him to release his people. Cue Pharoah finally letting Moses and his people go — with a miracle occurring at the Red Sea it parted, basically , when he tried to bring them back. The final two days of Passover celebrate the Red Sea miracle and the liberation of the Israelites.

That means no food that contains wheat, barley, rye, oats or spelt grains or any bread that has risen baked for more than 18 minutes to be precise can be eaten. So that basically means bread, sandwiches, cakes and pastries made with flour, pasta and cereals are all banned for the duration of the festival. The list is pretty endless really. You can, however, get Passover-friendly versions of most things these days including — yes! Not only are you not supposed to eat chametz food, you are not supposed to own it either.

Yup, a whole new set of dishes just for one week of the year. Most definitely. On the first two nights there is a special evening service called a Seder — which usually takes place at home — which involves recounting the story of Passover and also involves a slap-up dinner midway through the evening — as well as a special plate which takes pride of place on the table and contains symbols of the service.

During the holiday, those who observe are not allowed to eat unleavened bread. There are other restrictions as well, but some that have been changed include some being allowed to eat legumes, chickpeas, rice, beans, edamame, and corn.
